Let’s take a look at if you are departing from New York City. The best airline from NYC to Bali is Emirates, offering a 23-hr itinerary through Dubai. Of course, these flight details are not set in stone and can change depending on several factors.
General Factors Influencing Bali Flight Duration
As we said earlier, there are several factors that can influence flight times to Bali. Let us take a look at some of the factors that can affect the flight time to Bali:
Departure City
If you live in a country far away from Bali (like the United States or Buenos Aires), the flight time will definitely be longer. Bali flight time for local and international flights is determined by the distance between the departure city and destination.
As you can see from our charts, the average flight time from Melbourne to Bali is significantly shorter than if you are coming from London, L.A., Buenos Aires, NYC, Cape Town, or Japan.
Layovers
Long-haul flights typically have layovers, especially if the airline you choose does not offer a direct flight to Bali. Layovers can take anywhere between less than an hour to 6 hours. Some layovers can even take overnight. Having connecting flights will add to the total travel time.
Weather Condition
If there is an advisory of strong weather on both the departure and arrival destinations, it is possible for the flight to be delayed. If the plane has already taken off and there is a sudden change in weather (rain, etc.), the aircraft can slow down which can make the flight time longer.
Do I Need A Visa For Bali?
Visitors from ASEAN countries do not need a visa and can enter Bali visa-free provided that they are visiting for up to 30 days only as a tourist. If you are from the United States, UK, Canada, or Australia, or are passport holders from other countries that are not part of the ASEAN countries, you need to get a single-entry Visa on Arrival (VOA) once you arrive at Bali airport.
The VOA is valid for only 30 days. If you want to stay more than 30 days in Indonesia, you have to apply for a B211A Offshore Visit Visa before your trip to Bali. Do note that you have to pay for the VOA once you arrive at the airport.
There will be a special counter at Bali’s airport where you can obtain the VOA. You can also apply for an e-VOA online before your trip to Bali. This can be done 14 days before your trip and no later than 48 hours before your flight to Bali.

What To Look Out For When Buying A Plane Ticket To Bali
You are probably excited about your trip to Bali. However, before you book that flight, there are several things you need to keep in mind.
If you are coming from the United States, London, Buenos Aires, or Cape Town, there are no direct flights to Bali. If possible choose an airline that will only have one layover to avoid any hassles, but it might cost you more.
Another factor to consider is your budget for the airfare. Long-haul flights are generally more expensive. If you have the means to upgrade, do so as it will be a long flight.
However, if you are on a budget, booking your plane ticket early might give you the best deals that can fit your budget. Airline tickets can fluctuate. If you are trying to get the cheapest flight possible, keep an eye out for airline deals or check the prices regularly and book the ticket that fits your budget. Going to Bali during the peak tourist season will typically make ticket prices skyrocket. If you want cheap flights, better go to Bali during the off-season.
You should also consider any checked luggage that you will bring. Some airlines have the checked bags included in the price while other airlines will give you the option to add on a checked bag for an additional price.
Conclusion
Unless you live in Southeast Asia and nearby countries, your flight time to Bali will typically take anywhere between 20 to 30 hours with layover(s) in between. This is because the flight time is calculated based on the distance between the departure point and the destination.
