As exciting as these activities are, sometimes you just want a quiet and relaxing day at the beach. Noto does not only have stunning baroque architecture but it is also close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily.

Noto is not on the coast so there will be a bit of travel time if you plan on visiting some of the beaches near Noto. The closest beaches are within a 20-minute drive from central Noto and you can ride a taxi going to your destination.

Vendicari Nature Reserve

This nature reserve is home to some of the unspoiled beaches in South Eastern Sicily. These are Eloro Beach, Spiaggia di Marianelli, Calamosche Beach, Vendicari Beach, and Cittadella dei Maccari Beach. The fastest way to go to the reserve is by car which will only take about 22 minutes from Noto.

Entrance to the reserve is not free so you’ll have to buy your tickets at the nature reserve ticket office to enter. There are five entrances to the reserve – Vendicari (main entrance), Calamosche, Marianelli, and Eloro.

Calamosche Beach

Calamosche Beach is an unspoiled beach in Sicily and is a 20-minute drive from Noto. It has fine white sand and a crystal clear sea which is great for swimming and snorkeling. 

There are no facilities on this sandy beach and it is only accessible by foot from the beach parking area. It is a 20-30 minute walk from the parking area to the beach. But, the short hike is worth it because of the stunning view of the blue sea.

Eloro Beach

Eloro Beach is part of the reserve and is one of the closest beaches in Noto. It only takes about a 13 to 15-minute ride via a taxi.

This beach also has crystal clear waters and fine golden sand which is perfect if you want a relaxing day at the beach. You can also see the ancient archeological site of the ancient Greek city of Eloro as it is very close to the beach.

Like Calamosche Beach, Eloro Beach also does not have any facilities so you would not see any beach tables, umbrellas, or deck chairs. You will need to bring your own if you want to spend a day on this beach. Beach balls and beach toys are also not allowed on the beach as it is a regulation of the reserve.

San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo Beach is another beach in Noto that is just outside the Vendicari Nature Reserve boundary. Like other beaches in the reserve, San Lorenzo Beach also has pristine sand and crystal-clear waters.

You can do several water-based sports activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. There are also other activities on the beach such as kayaking, sup-surfing, and beach volleyball. The water on the beach is also shallow and calm which is perfect for swimmers of all ages. 

Lido di Noto

Going to Lido di Noto from Noto is accessible via a taxi and the travel time is about 10 to 15 minutes. You can also catch a train from Nota to Avola, which is another city in Sicily, and then take a taxi to the beach. This option will take you about 20 minutes from Noto to the beach.

Unlike other beaches near Noto, Lido di Noto Beach is equipped with amenities such as sunbed rentals, deck chairs, beach clubs, and umbrellas. Lido di Noto also has a more vibrant atmosphere as it is near local seaside restaurants and bars. You will also have lovely views of the Ionian Sea as you stroll along the beach.
